One-to-one Dog Training and Behaviour Consultations

Sometimes there's a clear distinction between what's a 'behaviour consultation' and what's more of a concentrated 'training session', but since everything in life is connected, even behaviour consultations incorporate some reward-based training. And since this is about ethical training, and creating relationships that are based on empathy and understanding, some changes will be required in a dog's home life too (including routines) in addition to the practical training carried out in a session. So it's a mixture of chatting as well as active training!

Puppies

Covering all the common puppy issues including toileting, biting, jumping up, chewing, sleeping at night, coping alone etc. Plus basic foundation training, recall and loose lead walking.

Adolescents

Lots of foundation skills; and helping to aim their energetic behaviours in the right direction. Covering everything from over-exuberance and inattention to impulsivity and reactivity... plus dealing with any behaviour issues that have emerged.

Working on cues such as: sit, down, stay, come, leave, off, drop, give, 'go to', fetch, close/ heel, 'watch me'...and anything else you think might be useful!

Adult dogs

Foundation training, coping with distractions, and anything else you want to cover (eg anxiety, aggression, separation anxiety, attention seeking, destructive behaviour, lack of self-control, pulling on the lead, jumping up, biting, not coming back when called etc).

Problem behaviours

Including: aggression (inside and outside the house), reactivity, anxiety/ fears/ phobias, toileting issues, separation anxiety, recall problems, destruction in the house, eating things they shouldn't, hyperactive/ boisterous behaviour...and anything else that causes distress to them and you.

Special tasks

It might be that you want your dog to be an owner-taught helper dog, or emotional support dog...or perhaps you want to train specific skills such as trick training or beginner agility/ heelwork to music. Whatever it is, get in touch to see if Sarah can help you both meet your goals.

Info and how to book

If your dog has a sudden change in behaviour, or it involves aggression, please get a check up with your vet first, to rule out underlying health issues.

Please fill out a behaviour consultation form or registration form, and hand it to Sarah at the beginning of your session or email it to her in advance. Forms are below. If you're unsure which one to fill out, check with Sarah first.

Sarah's working area is Hildenborough/ Tonbridge/ Southborough/ Leigh/ Penshurst/  Tunbridge Wells. If you live further away, sessions can happen at a suitable location within Sarah's working area eg a Tonbridge park.

The cost of one-to-one sessions are:

  • £60 for a 1hr session
  • £30 for a 30 min session - for appointments in Tonbridge, Hildenborough or Leigh only

Payment is via bank transfer, or cash/ cheque on the day.

Please contact Sarah for more information, and to book your appointment...

Shared training with friends:

If you and your friend/s are working on similar things with your dogs, then you can arrange a session together, to share the cost. The cost of the session will remain the same (eg £60 for 1 hour), which will be split between how many people take part on the day of training (eg £20 each if 3 handlers are present).

Extra coaching:

Once you have had at least five hours of one-to-one training, you can choose the coaching option. This is £40 for an hour. There is less content and advice given in these sessions, as you should already have the skills for loose-lead walking etc, but these sessions will include tips on how to improve your techniques, timing, and the use (and control) of rewards. These are especially useful when working with reactive dogs, as you'll feel you're not alone to deal with difficult situations yourself, and Sarah can step in and take over if necessary. Only available to those who have worked with Sarah for at least 5 hours of one-to-one training, and only if Sarah feels she can take a step back when things are going well.

Forms

If your dog has complex behavioural issues, especially if this involves aggression, then you will need to fill out a behaviour form as well.

For 'general' training, and puppy training, a registration form will be all that's required unless Sarah needs more information about your dog.

If you want to fill it in and email it, you'll need to choose the 'word doc' option.
